Red Dead Redemption 2, “bom tấn” tẩu tán được 15 triệu bản sau tám ngày ra mắt, đang trở thành cái tên đình đám nhất tại The Game Awards năm nay. Cùng với God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2 trở thành tựa game được đề cử ở nhiều nhất tại The Game Awards và đã giành chiến thắng bốn hạng mục trong số đó – bao gồm Tựa Game có Cốt truyện Hay Nhất Năm (Best Narrative), Tựa Game có Âm nhạc Hay Nhất Năm, Tựa Game có lối Thiết kế Âm thanh Hay Nhất Năm và Diễn viên Hay Nhất Năm.
Hiện Red Dead Redemption 2 vẫn còn cơ hội cạnh tranh hạng mục giải thưởng quan trọng nhất tại The Game Awards, Tựa Game Hay Nhất Năm, hiện vẫn chưa được công bố.
Năm thứ ba liên tiếp tại The Game Awards, Overwatch đoạt giải Tựa Game Esports của Năm khi vượt qua bốn cái tên “sừng sỏ” khác là Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Fortnite và League of Legends (LMHT).
Overwatch đang đứng trước “cú đúp” danh hiệu Tựa Game Đang Tiếp Tục Sản của Năm nếu đánh bại được những Destiny 2, Fortnite, No Man’s Sky và Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege.
Ngoài ra, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, tựa game battle royale đã từng “gây bão” toàn cầu trong năm ngoái, hoàn toàn vắng bóng tại The Game Awards khi không được đề cử trong bất cứ hạng mục giải thưởng nào.
PUBG Mobile, phiên bản trên thiết bị di động của PUBG, cũng đã để thua Florence trong hạng mục Tựa Game Mobile của Năm.
